I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being.

— Hafiz

My name is Joanna and I am a DONA-certifying doula, fitness teacher, wife, and mama in the South Denver area of Colorado — welcome.

It is my passion and honor to support and empower birthing people to have their best birth experience.

I grew up in Connecticut, before finding my way to Colorado, and it was in Denver that I met my husband Jason. After getting married, we were surprised that starting a family didn’t come as quickly or easily as expected. After pregnancy loss and multiple rounds of treatments, we welcomed our first two children: Jacob and Lilah. My first introduction to the birth space came at a young age in the form of stories about the primal power of and caring communities surrounding birthing people from all over the world. It was when I was preparing for the delivery of my son that I turned this memory into action and hired a doula. I knew my husband and I both deserved unwavering support in the manner best suited to the way we wanted to bring our child into the world — every birthing person deserves that continuous support. When it came time for the birth of my daughter, I nearly cried with delight when my birth location began to allow trained labor companions again and promptly rehired the same doula from my first birth.

Birth, and life for that matter, doesn't have to be something that happens to you; you can reclaim your power.

We are so much stronger than we often give ourselves credit for, which is something I find reinforced regularly in my nearly 15 years as a yoga and fitness instructor. The human body is so capable and adaptable, especially when we know how to work with the mind/body connection instead of against it. As capable as we are, we are also individuals with unique needs — we have every right to advocate for our preferences and interests. It it important that my families feel informed and empowered to trust their intuition, their voice, and their physical capacity. Together, we can banish the fear of the unknown and develop tricks and tools to care for expecting parents as you traverse the prenatal period, through labor and delivery, and emerge into the postpartum world.

In Italian, the literal translation of to give birth is “dare alla luce,” which means “to give to the light.” In all facets of my services, I offer a commitment to the light. A commitment to honoring that spark we all have within us, to compassion, to shining light into the darkness, to uphold the highest of ethical standards; a commitment to education, to encouragement, and to the creation a supportive and special space for each and every unique birth to come into the light.

When in my own space, you can find me cooking for my friends and family, always looking to continue learning, and even occasionally having an entire cup of coffee while hot — all while parenting a pair each of kids, dogs, and cats.

I can’t wait to connect with you!
